This policy explains what information the website pokiesreviewaustralia.com (“the site”, “we”, “us”) collects, why, who else sees it, and what you can ask us to do about it. It covers this site only — not any casino or third party you reach from here; those businesses have their own policies, and we have no access to the accounts you hold with them.
1. Who operates this site
The site is published by a company registered outside Australia; registration details are in our terms of use. Because the operator is not established in Australia, we are not necessarily an “APP entity” under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). We nevertheless take the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) as our working standard, because most of our readers are in Australia. Where this policy and the APPs differ, we say so rather than rely on the gap.
Privacy enquiries: [email protected].
2. What we collect
We do not operate accounts, take payments or ask you to register; there is no login here. What we hold falls into four narrow categories.
2.1 Server logs
Standard request data: IP address, date and time, the URL requested, HTTP status, referring URL, and browser and operating system strings. They exist for security and reliability. An IP address can be personal information, so we treat it as such.
2.2 Cookies and similar technologies
Functional cookies, analytics identifiers and — if you click through to an operator — affiliate tracking parameters. See sections 3 to 5.
2.3 Analytics data
Aggregated measurement: pages viewed, approximate location at city or country level, device type, referral source and time on page. See section 4.
2.4 Information you send us
If you email [email protected] or [email protected], we receive whatever the message contains: your email address, your name if you give it, and your enquiry. We run no contact form and no newsletter.
We do not knowingly collect sensitive information — health, financial account details, government identifiers, or anything about your play with an operator. Please do not send account numbers, identity documents or KYC paperwork; if you do, we delete them.
3. Cookies
Cookies are small text files stored by your browser. This site uses:
- Functional cookies — remember display preferences and keep the site working. They cannot be switched off without breaking the page.
- Analytics cookies and identifiers — count visits and show which pages are read (section 4).
- Affiliate and click-tracking parameters — set when you follow a link to an operator (section 5).
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or browse in private mode; blocking analytics will not stop you reading anything here. We do not use cookies to build advertising profiles and do not share data with advertising networks for retargeting.
4. Analytics
We use two measurement tools:
- Google Analytics 4. It sets cookies and may collect a truncated IP address, device and browser information, and page interaction events. Google processes this on our behalf and may transfer it outside Australia. IP anonymisation is applied; advertising features and Google Signals are not enabled.
- Plausible Analytics, a privacy-oriented tool that sets no cookies, stores no identifier on your device and does not track visitors across websites. It reports aggregate page views, referrers and country.
Both exist for one purpose: to know which articles are useful. Neither identifies an individual reader. You can opt out of Google Analytics with Google’s browser add-on, or by blocking the script.
5. Affiliate links and click tracking
The site is funded by affiliate commission. Links and buttons leading to a casino are tracked: the destination receives a referral identifier, usually as a URL parameter or a redirect, telling the operator the visit came from us. If you later open an account, the operator can attribute it and pay a commission.
What that means for your privacy:
- We receive aggregate reporting only — clicks, registrations, commissions. We do not receive your name, email address, balance, deposits or play history, and we do not want them.
- Once you leave this site, the operator’s privacy policy governs, not ours.
- Clicking a tracked link costs you nothing and does not change the offer you are shown.
- Tracked links carry the nofollow sponsored attribute, and pages with ranking tables carry a visible disclosure. The model is described on the about page, its relationship to scoring on how we rate.
6. How we use the information
Only to operate and secure the site, measure which content is read, answer messages, correct factual errors readers report, and meet any legal obligation. We do not profile you, serve advertising or run a mailing list.
7. Disclosure to others
We do not sell personal information. We disclose it only to the providers needed to run the site — hosting, the analytics providers in section 4 and the affiliate networks in section 5 — and only so far as those services require. We may also disclose where legally compelled, or to investigate abuse.
8. Overseas disclosure
Consistently with APP 8: the operator, its hosting and its service providers are outside Australia, so information described in this policy is processed overseas, including in the United States and the European Union. Privacy protections there differ from Australian law. Using the site means accepting that overseas handling.
9. Security and retention
The site is served over HTTPS and we take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect what we hold. No internet transmission is completely secure.
Retention: server logs up to 12 months, then deleted or aggregated; analytics for the provider’s configured period, currently no more than 14 months for Google Analytics, while Plausible holds aggregates only; email correspondence for as long as the matter requires and a reasonable period afterwards.
10. Your rights
You may ask us to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you (APP 12);
- Correct anything inaccurate, out of date or incomplete (APP 13);
- Delete correspondence or other information we are not required to keep;
- Complain about how we have handled your information.
Send requests to [email protected]; we aim to respond within 30 days. We may need to verify that the request comes from you. In practice only email correspondence is identifiable — we cannot connect a server log or an analytics record to a named individual.
If our response does not satisfy you, raise the matter with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au. We will cooperate with any such enquiry.
11. Children
This site is for adults only; its subject matter is restricted to persons aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has sent us personal information, tell us and we will delete it.
12. Third-party websites
Pages here link to operators, government bodies and the support services listed on our responsible gambling page. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of any external site, including those reached through affiliate links. Read their policies before giving them information.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site changes. The current version is always at this address, with the date at the top. Continuing to use the site after an update means you accept it.
14. Contact
Privacy, data and legal matters: [email protected]. Editorial corrections: [email protected]. More on reaching us is on the contact page; conditions of use are in our terms of use.
